Karen Mattison with

Tim Simmerman and Gil Boyne

Karen Mattison is a clinical hypnotherapist certified by the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners (#108-054) and an Associate Member of the International Mental Health Professionals of Japan. She graduated from the Hypnotherapy Academy of America in New Mexico, where she studied with Gil Boyne, the founder of the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners, and Tim Simmerman, the author of Medical Hypnotherapy.

In addition to studying hypnotherapy, Karen has studied many energy systems. After training privately with teachers in Japan, the US, and the UK, Karen has achieved the level of Master in the Usui Method of Reiki and in Seikim.

Karen became interested in complementary medicine after developing repetitive strain injury (RSI) in both wrists. RSI causes chronic pain and weakness in the hands, leading to difficulties with daily tasks such as typing, chopping vegetables, and holding pens and other objects. RSI cannot be cured, but pain and swelling can be managed with rest and medication. Using hypnosis and energy work, Karen has greatly reduced the pain in her wrists and hands, thereby eliminating the need for pain medication. She now specializes in accelerated healing and pain management.

In addition to her training in complementary medicine, Karen has a BA from the University of California at San Diego and an MA from the Monterey Institute of International Studies. She has lived in Japan for ten years.
